Get people in a good mood, get them laughing, tell them funny everyday stories which demonstrate important principles, keep them open and engaged with stimulating discussions and exercises, help them feel good about themselves, provide them with a memorable and powerful experience to cement in learning and then give them some time to reflect on the future.
Tony believes these are the essential ingredients for a successful learning experience. If people don’t leave on a high, thinking and talking about their experiences then the chances are that not much more is going to happen for most of them.
Tony is a skilled and gifted trainer, speaker and presenter who engages with people easily and naturally. He explains complex principles using simple everyday language and examples. He is a dedicated life long learner and as well as taking his own medicine, he knows his onions. He was acclaimed JCI Best UK trainer 2005, European Debating Championship winning team captain 2005, BJC Most outstanding public speaker in 2002 and in 2006 was JCI ‘off the cuff speaking’ champion.
When Tony met TOM
Tony came met the TOM pronciples in 2007 and has been an integral part of TOM’s development since then. Here’s what he says about working with TOM:
‘The TOM concepts blended seamlessly with my own experience in training, presenting and coaching. TOM is more a set of principles than a rigid set of models, and these principles allow the deliverer to ensure every point is hit home clearly; principles explained in a variety of ways to suit different individual learning and behavioural styles. There are numerous memory hooks to help embed the learning, memorable activities for those that like to ‘do’, and each course or learning intervention is an active demonstration of the principles being trained or coached. This invokes one of the most powerful learning principles of all i.e. monkey see monkey do! The atmosphere in a session is always one of productivity fun, learning and support; which is another powerful demonstration and example of what the right approach and attitudes can produce.’
Experience
Tony has 20 years of experience in UK management and has worked as a trainer in the areas of Leadership, Communication and Team Building, with many of the countries largest and successful companies and organisations: M&S, Tesco, Diageo, BT, Royal Mail, NHS, Pfizer, Fujitsu to name but a handful, have all experienced the Tony touch. In the Public Sector Tony has also worked with Ofcom, the NHS, Bucks Council, the Royal College of Nursing, the Healthcare Trust, The Charities Commission, the National Office of Statistics.
In each case he has been working with management teams developing their skill-sets in management and communication.
According to Tony the best thing about working with the TOM principles and models is the impact they have on participants. ‘Within the first hour people have surprised themselves by outperforming their own expectations of themselves!’ He continues ‘People leave the courses armed with knowledge and experience, and also with plans and the confidence to carry them out. TOM courses and coaching sessions are both useful and fun for me as well as theclients or delegates! My main goal is to always assist clients to achieve THEIR desired goals, but having fun along the way is of paramount importance.’
